Description
The Institute for Defense Analysis authored this extensive historical study of the evolution of U.S. strategic command and control from 1945 through 1972. The study also examines the development of defensive warning systems, shifts in military thinking concerning nuclear weapons, and the creation and development of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), among other pertinent topics. Attention is paid to the impact of key historical events, such as the Korean War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
