Description

This report consists of a brief outline and findings from Weapons System Evaluation Group (WSEG) Report number 148. The report is followed by a number of memoranda by members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that discuss the report and its recommendations.

The report focuses on the survivability of US nuclear forces in the mid-1970s, particularly given the complications created by MIRV missiles and heavily defended Soviet targets. Possibilities for penetrating Soviet ABM systems are discussed.

Considerable material is redacted.
